LOL! I guess, when you consider that a Jan-Aug 05 birth is a 2023 and a Sept-Dec 06 is a 2025, there can be a huge difference in ages (almost two full years in some cases). My DD falls into the 2025, but was playing against 2023 kids. So for travel ball purposes, she'll always be the young kid, but for school ball she'll always be the oldest. I prefer it that way.
That's where we are too. 9/10/06 birthday, she's always been one of the 2 or 3 youngest on her team in rec and travel. But if she plays school ball she'll be one of the oldest for her grade.

I get it. My DD is a Sept 04 b-day. In contrast, SyndreSoftball's DD is an early-Jan 05 b-day, and is less than 3 months younger than my DD. His DD has the skills to be a strong player in 12U TB, but stayed in 10U this year for developmental reasons, and was a dominator. I know Syndre's DD well. Yes, she can throw that hard...with control!

Just for the record regarding the Tennessee Mojo 10u pitchers... my daughter was a member of that team (played 3rd – not a pitcher). I can attest to the speeds of the pitchers because they were not only timed by dads & coaches on our own team – but by opposing dads and coaches. I witnessed it constantly as the year went on – parents/coaches from other teams coming over to one of our games to check the pitch speed out with their own radar. Yes, the girl from Indiana would throw 58-60 in a game. The girl from Ohio who was the starting pitcher in the PGF finals threw 55-57 with a nasty change. Another young lady from Ohio threw 54-55. The two pitchers who played in Modesto, California in April, when these girls couldn't make the trip, threw between 52-55 between them. During PGF they played mostly 1B & CF. As far as throwing 50-52 and dominating in 10u is concerned – it's not going to happen against one of the elite teams unless you have a real good change to go with it and you're good at spotting your pitches. We had two girls go yard in back-to-back innings on Wed. at PGF against a team from Washington. Their pitcher threw 50 ... down the middle. Both the girls that homered are Texas girls (including my DD), who practice almost entirely on 50-55mph pitching. Batting lessons they'll see 50 mph pitching. At the cages they practice against 55-60 mph ... and once in a while they'll hit live against a local high school pitcher who throws 63. By the time the semifinals rolled around at PGF, I don't think anybody's #1 pitcher was throwing slower than 53-54.

I don't doubt that there are 10U girls who can throw that fast. It's not common around here though. I clocked a bunch all spring with a Pocket Radar Ball Coach. We played A all year and I clocked pitchers from the best teams around here. Never saw a first digit 5 on that thing. Not once. The high was 48 or 49, so close. On a Bushnell they'd probably have broken 50; the PR seems a couple miles an hour slower (supposedly more accurate, who knows). My DD's been invited to play PGF with a local team that has an automatic berth next year. We don't know if we're going to go (it's an expensive trip for 10U softball, plus it'll mean 2 trips in July since our own team will play a world series) but if we do I'm definitely looking forward to clocking some pitchers.

There's some very good players at 10U, but they have so much development ahead of them it's hard for me to grasp the idea of "elite" 10U. I'm not surprised some girls can top 50 with an 11" ball. I find it hard to believe it's commonplace at any alphabet.
