Just as the topic, what is weight shift to you? What role does it play in the swing?
The swing shifts/transfers the weight from the rear side to the front side. Some will say shift/transfer the weight from the rear side to the middle."My weight is my left (rear) foot, as I start swinging, my weight shifts to my right (lead) foot at the time of contact with the ball." - Babe Ruth
I respectfully disagree on the ''rear foot getting unweighted'' and all the weight shifting to the front side. I'm more of the weight shifting to/towards the middle during the swing. Again JMHO.How "middle" is defined makes a big difference.
In the Pujols example, his torso remains in the middle (roughly centered between his feet), but the rear foot getting fully unweighted indicates that there is a shift to the front side.

Pujols starts in the launch position. Doesn't really have to go anywhere accept to to finish off the load a little, a little coil to finish it off.
I like the back to center idea.
Does anyone think the weight shift happens before the swing? As in it's part of forward by turning or to finish of the coil?
I might say in a 'pre-coil' position(lower). I wouldn't say Pujols 'starts in a launch position'.Pujols starts in the launch position
I think Pujols has 'some where more to go' with his load then to 'finish'. Again JMHO.Doesn't really have to go anywhere accept to to finish off the load a little, a little coil to finish it off
