We received ours in the mail and immediately saw something in DDs swing that she could no longer deny. Pay close attention to configuring the angle of the bat as it does make a difference.

I don't think it is good to use an analyzer or video to win an 'argument' with one's child over his or her form or skills. It is better for your relationship and learning process to provide information -- on a regular basis -- and let the player make that assessment for him or herself. A hitting flaw is not like some unhealthy activity that needs such an intervention.

For people that lack an understanding of swing mechanics, it may be better to avoid quantification efforts. That way they can continue to push what would otherwise be proven incorrect.

Back on the dirt...
It not about winning arguments. It's about giving them the help they need to become the best they can be. (Which is what a GOOD coach does or at least is their goal BTW)
From my limited experience with it over the last week. I've been able to show them the differences in bat speed and attacking angles based on mechanical adjustments within their swings. This visual helps them to really see how much better they'll be able to perform if they focus on the adjustments.

Key words are in this sentence about coaching.

I also agree it's a tool and needs to be used with good instruction. If you don't understand it, don't use it.

If you can't see that modern technology is usefull in coaching, it may be time to step away from it. Jmo

Yes, it's much better to tell your child for months or years what their mechanical flaw is, all while they deny it. Wait on them to come to the conclusion on their own. Remember, they are teenagers. They will all eventually come around to logic. Just continually point out the flaw and argue with them when they deny it. A year from now when Sally finally learns that she's pulling the bat, the leasson will mean much more. Use these months or years of critiques to build a much stronger relationship. There should be no reason to use video or analyzers that would give a child absolute evidence to their swing flaw so they can begin to work on it. This will only end the dispute quickly, robbing you of a special parenting experience.

I find it best as a parent to talk directly with a coach or instructor about my concerns about my duaghter's mechanics, see if they agree, and then have them talk with my daughter. I think it's one of those universal laws, like gravity, where if a parent tells them something they take it personal and it becomes a fight, whereas if a respected coach or instructor tells them it's gospel.

Oh, boy, is that true! Sometimes I can see her turn off the second I open my mouth.

They have the price down to less than half the price of a bat.

It's amazing how many old wise tales the device can help dispel.

The ability to collect quick, measurable feedback allows a hitter to better correlate their swing thoughts with actual (non-subjective) results. Should help reduce the learning curve for many.

There we go! I was waiting to get your opinion before deciding to buy it. Thanks!!

It really is an excellent gadget.

When coaching a team we often play "good cop, bad cop". The "bad cop" sets the bar, keeps raising the bar and pretends to be die hard strict. The "good cop" works with the players to help them achieve the objectives set by the "bad cop". Sometimes I play the role of the "good cop" and sometimes I play the role of the "bad cop".

The thing is .... playing the role of the "good cop" is more fun.

So ... what does this have to do with the Zepp?

Quite a bit actually. The Zepp can serve as the "bad cop", allowing you (the instructor) to concentrate fully on playing the role of the "good cop".

In a session last week a hitter found her "hip flexor" (... actually, the act of 'hip extension') ... and the Zepp provided the feedback for the lady to buy into it. Real concrete data. You, as the instructor, get to simply apply what you know works and let the Zepp give feedback.

Chez Sievers has a podcast where she interviews players, coaches, etc....I'm pretty sure every single coach I've heard her interview has mentioned the Zepp as the single most exciting tool on the market today. These were all pretty much the who's-who of college softball coaching.

Has anyone used the Zepp with an Anderson bat, and if so, any issues with the smaller knob?
