Actually our wristbands just had Drag Bunt, Slap, Push not necessarily where to attempt to place the ball, that is for the batter to determine based on defense. All I said was the wristbands worked for us, and made the game more efficient. You all made the assumption of overcoaching.

No we had them for all players I was just citing the bunt/slap stuff. We had all offensive and defensive plays on the bands like I said in my first post.

Kevin, I apologize if I offended you. There was a misunderstanding.

The OP (original poster) said that he wants to call "not only the type of slap (drag bunt, soft slap, hard slap, etc.) we also call baselines (for drag bunts) and whether we want the ball to go toward SS or 2nd". I was responding to the OP's comment, and I assumed, incorrectly, that you thought it was a good idea to go into that much detail.

No problem I guess I also didn't express what I was trying to say about the wristband use.

Amy, no they are basically the quarterback wristbands used in football. We only ran into problems in 1 Tournament where our pitcher was wearing it. The umpires never said anything until the opposing coach said something, so she just took it off no problem.

We want to discourage thinking and responsibility by our youth, so that we can later complain that they don't think and lack responsibility.

With luck, electronic implants will soon enable coaches to operate their players by remote control.

It would be even more efficient not to let children play softball, since their coordination is not that of an adult. Perhaps we can modify the rules to allow adults to play 14U softball.

One day they will be able to take a roster picture of your team and put them into a video game, that way you can just use a game controller and play the game with your girls, but without the problem of actually letting them play. it will be great.

Its amazing how people ask for an opinion and some answer "your opinions stupid and your stupid". Thats all I seem to see when I troll these forums from repeated posters........

We are all going to have different views....thats why its an opinion. Dont give your opinion aggressively or say an opinion is stupid. Stte your opinion and step out. Middle school all over again.

Sad.

I think that my questions just provided a forum for people to express their pet peeve. I don't take too much stock in the venom and would have never lasted in coaching for many years if I did. Actually I see their points. I've seen over reaching coaches and I agree with the sentiment of those who believe that the kids need to make their own decisions.

I've coached for quite a few years and I've always believed that a coaches job is to teach. Some people here believe that the kids should be allowed to learn on their own through their own mistakes. To a large extent I agree. But where I differ is in how we arrive to that point.

Anyway...thanks for the opinions. Now...let me ask a question that is less volatile in nature...do you subscribe to a linear or rotational swing? LOL...just kidding.

What type of wristbands? Those tennis sweatbands? I can't think of anything else that the umps would let you wear.

Amy, they look similar to this:

As coaches we have the ability to take this in stride. Problem is its always bucket dads and moms trying to help their kids that ask these questions and we chastize them :)

As for rotational vs linear I subscribe to Howard Dobsons (LSU) theory. "Start linear and finish rotational. The bat is linear and the body is rotational.......or we can just stop overthinking it an hit LOL".

As for those that are too lazy to coach heres the definition of coach:

coach/kōCH/Noun: 1.A horse-drawn carriage, esp. a closed one.
2.An athletic instructor or trainer.

Verb: 1.Travel by coach: "they coached to Claude's dwelling".
2.Train or instruct (a team or player).

The days of suck it up and fix it are over. Inexperienced and experienced players want to be taught and thus coached.
