As for roster size, it really depends. If you've got 10 committed kids who are durable, that will work fine, and everyone will probably be pretty happy. If the kids have trouble making tournaments and/or are fragile, 12 might not be enough. People worry about game injuries while playing with only nine, and it's certainly possible, but in 11 years now, I've never been part of a team that had a problem while doing that.

I don't think commitment is a problem and we have our tournament list through June (about 2 a month) so vacations can be managed. Anyway, nothing I can do about it I was just curious. It will probably be ok

We had 11 last year for my daughter's 10u team. That number worked out perfect for the season. No one got injured and nobody quit the team during the season. All the girls got a lot of playing time. Nobody sat more than 2 innings in a full game. We had one game the entire season where we only had 8 players, there was a daddy daughter dance on a Friday night that we had a game. We just picked up a player for that game, no big deal.

Assuming you don't have a lot of kids playing other sports and they are all likely to show up for all games when healthy, 12 seems ideal, 11 works just fine, and anything less is tough because someone will inevitably get sick or have a family event once every three or four weeks. 13 and 14 are too many IMO.

As a parent I liked 10-11 in 10U. DH is head coaching a 12U team now and I like 12 better. Maybe even 13 depending on commitment level of the parents. When you're the one having to deal with players leaving, getting hurt, getting sick, having other crap to do, 10-11 is not enough anymore.

10 is just asking for trouble...especially if you are never picking up you are one family emergency and injury away from calling everyone Friday morning and telling them don't bother I just called the TD and told him we aren't coming.

I would try to get to 11.

First tournament game tonight. They have 9 girls as one is hurt. Please join me in saying a little prayer that none of the kids hurt themselves at recess today

DD plays on a 14U team with a roster of 11. But really they have 10 because one girl plays out of state most weekends...DD's team gets her on her "off weekends". One girl was hurt for the past 2 weekends so they played with 9. It was great for playing time, but I got a little worried when in between games DD decided she was going to throw up. Thankfully after some tums she was ok - but it got a little scary. Her team actually has to pick up a player for next Sunday because 2 girls are playing in a VB tournament. So far, so good, but we shall see as the season progresses...

When she was 10 they had 13. WAAAYYYY too many! Too much sitting around time.

Yes 13 is too much. I actually brought up the roster size with the HC (it came up organically somehow, which was nice ) and he said he would like to have 11 but would only pick up another kid if "she is a good player ready to step in now and help"

We are 14u with 13 on the roster, and we have two hurt and one sick for this weekend. So we have 10 girls, but one is really a "pitcher only". And we play 4 100 minute games in a row tomorrow. This should be interesting....
