I sort of see your point, he has plenty of catching options on the team. My point is that he asked for a commitment to the team from each girl, in keeping that commitment my daughter was injured. This action proves that the talk of commitment was one way. In the long run this will be the best for my daughter, however it is hard to see that through her tears. In the long run she will be fine and they will continue to lose.

As is the case with most everyone, my kid left a team under less than friendly circumstances a few years ago. That team folded later that season, and although DD was upset at the time, it was nothing more than a speed-bump. Resolve the injury, and find a new team in January.

At 1-49, I'm astounded that there still is a team there. Winning isn't everything, but you need to do it at least occasionally.

This sounds like a coach who is conflict avoidant, which is not a great trait for a coach. He should have told you upfront his concerns about her falling behind. If he didn't have the thoughts immediately, he should have talked to you about it as soon as he did have them. That was a lousy move. But as others have said, she'll be better off in the long run. Focus on her recovery and getting better with her skills and she'll get there.

So my DD a catcher started to feel pain in her arm when she threw in late July. We went to a sports medcine doctor and she was diagnosed with a strained ucl. The doctor set her up with rehab and said she could still throw just maybe move to first where there would be fewer throws. Explained this to the coach that she could still play just not catcher and that she needed to keep the throws down. He agreed said it was not a problem. He then started having her do basically nothing during practice and would exclude from any communcation or meetings with the catchers. In the first fall tournment she just hit and was at the end of the line up, so in three games she batted three times total for the day. After seeing the doctor again and no progress being made he suggested that maybe she set out the fall season. After talking with DD and hearing how she feels isolated at practice and the fact that I was not happy in paying for the expense and time of a tournment for three at bats we agreed with the doctor. I let the coach know last week said she would continue to work on hitting and her catching except for throwing and would be ready once winter conditioning started in January. He said he understood and that he would do the same thing. Today I get a phone calling saying that they mailed a check to refund the winter workout location fee and the fee for a new helmet, and that he was droppng her from the team. Said he couldn't hold a spot for her and was afraid she would be too far behind the other girls when spring came. Since we joined the team this spring they have won one tournment game of approxmately 50. That one game they won was one that my daughter started as catcher and then she got pulled in the last inning and they almost lost on three straight runs due to passed balls. Was told this summer that she was one of the four pillars of the team.

Thank you for letting me rant I know I should be happy that she can now move on to a better team, but I'm pissed. Plus I have to break it to my DD who turned down better teams this fall because she liked playing for this team, that she is no longer on the team. I know in pro sports, college sports, and in must jobs loyalty is a one street. I expected better when dealing with kids.

Send that coach a thank you card. He unknowingly did you a huge favor. You don't want to play for that guy and he did you a huge favor by not letting your kid play for him.

In your opinion did your dd prior performance at the plate reflect her place in the batting order? If it did then the writing on the seemed to be pretty obvious. If your batting last on a 1-49 team???? Coaches choice of dealing w the situation is a seoarate topic

She had the third highest average on the team with the second most at bats prior to her getting hurt. The lesson I take from this is even though my DD likes the team, I still need to be critical of what I'm seeing I let to many red flags pass by me. Such as she joined the team after the last fall season where he lost or ran off over half the team, again after this spring he lost or ran over half the team again. Several full practices consisted of just underhand toss drill and throwing from base to base this for a team that moved to 14u this fall. He injured two girls in fielding drills and third because they were struggling so he kept hitting the ball harder and harder at them. Working with his own daughter on pitching after she threw several balls in a row he angerily threw the ball hard at her hitting her in the shoulder causing her to set out the rest of practice. Finally in the tournaments played while my daughter was on the team they were out scored 309-76. While I'm upset with myself for being so stupid, but the sad part is there are still parents and kids with the team.

Sometimes when you are in the eye of the hurricane you can't see the damage and chaos that is going on around you, but you are still in a hurricane. There are teams around my area that have some of the same characteristics as your former team. Even if I told a parent what is going to happen on one of these teams, they would not believe me until they went through it themselves. And yes that coach did you a huge favor and you now have increased your TB experience 10 fold. You now recognize what should and should not be happening on a team and what you should tolerate or what you should run from. You just leveled up without even trying! You deserve 2 extra softballs in your profile!

I agree with others who said it's a blessing in disguise. Providing, of course, there are other options you can get to.

Have your daughter develop her non-throwing skills as a catcher right now - framing, blocking, game sense, receiving the ball and putting on tags, etc. Even transitioning the ball to make a throw on a steal. Then when she's cleared to throw add that in. (Almost) every team needs quality catching. Help her become that catcher everyone wants and she will find a team. It's a long ways until next summer. Things happen. Then sit back and enjoy when she plays her old team.
