Have the Vinci jcv-pc. It's like a tank so far. Great glove. Will take a while to break in. 14 months of catching pitching lessons and a couple of girls using it in tournaments and it still doesn't close on its own.
edit: not on the sub-$100 list, but a good investment none the less.

For what it's worth - DD liked the look of the Worth Liberty - and yes it is a VERY nice glove - not trying to knock it - but she did find it a lot heavier than her All Star glove.

Yep. Good glove. I think unless you have a fireballer - even a Fortus would be fine - warm up the girls in the mid 50s all the time with zero issues.

Normally I'd agree with JAD 100% and recommend a Vinci or All-Star. But in your situation I think I'd go for lowest price first, something several girls can start using right away and get a 34" mitt. I've only had one Mizuno mitt and it was a 34" model, absolutely massive pocket, no padding......but huge pocket. With the 10% off coupon on this link, that puts it just over $80.00. Should last a couple of seasons if the coach takes care of it?

Mizuno GXS50PF2 MVP Prime 34 in Fastpitch Softball Catchers Mitt Right Hand Throw - Ballgloves

It has been my experience that low priced gloves do not last more than a year or two with heavy use. A high quality glove can last 5+ years and they tend to hold their value. My DD's Vinci is 4 years old and it is still in great shape with one relace of the pocket and I bet I could get 50+% of the original price back if I was to list it on Ebay.

Oh trust me JAD, I agree with everything you said! I'm a complete glove junkie and I'd probably never buy that Mizuno I recommended for myself. BUT......from everything the OP said in the original post.....

**We don't have any players who have grown up as catchers!
**Nobody has their own mitts!
**We don't have anybody throwing anywhere near 60 mph at this time!

And even though the OP said it doesn't have to be game ready and he has time to break it in, he obviously has never broken in a Vinci catchers mitt before!! He can beat it and beat it, and then beat it some more, that don't mean it'll work or feel right for the particular girl he has in mind to be his catcher and use it. Even if that $80.00 Mizuno only last 2 years, he could buy another and have $160.00 tied up for 4 years of use. Most "non" catchers are going to use and enjoy using that Mizuno, you really only ever see dedicated die hard catchers using Vinci or All-Star mitts, mitts that take time and work to get them right. I own both Vinci and All-Star so I know, my original post was based off of the OP's original post.

So I just got my first "factory broke in glove" from Vinci in - a custom Kip outfielders glove - and I can *gasp* actually close it out of the box! They will still need some work, but it appears to be about 40-50% good to go. Should speed up the break in process a bunch.

Thanks Drakemir. So is Vinci going to include catchers mitts in this new process? I've really never had a problem closing their fielders gloves, especially the 3 or 4 black RV1961's I've got to play with. Now Anna's tan kip customs and the catchers mitts were on a completely different level of stiffness compared to the black kip!

Side note, and this is just me. I personally don't want anyone pre-breaking in any of my gloves, I think Vinci's already have plenty of oil already infused into them from the start.

Hasn't came up with a catcher's mitt yet - but it will soon. From what I can tell this is more a mechanical break in similiar to the glove whisper, instead of over treating with oils and such.

For someone who is experienced in breaking in gloves, this would not be needed - but for people who are buying their first non-local sporting goods store special - this can save a ton of work getting it at least practice ready.
