    8U circle protection?

We use the EVO shield on our 8UDD. With bats getting hotter I like the extra piece of mind it provides. First SB in over a year since the wreck. Asked back as an emergency guest player (2 girls dropped out after signing up for the tourney). Maybe........

    Don't forget the I-D-1O-T report

Ah yes the dreaded all-star coach drama. I too would have questioned taking half the team from the worst team in the league (provided you had more than 4 teams). Why were they the worst team in the league? No pitching? Then I could maybe understand it. Also. 15 is too many on a roster. The...

    I was a dirtbag-follow up thread

I took my family fishing this weekend so a little brag post. My 8 yo caught 26 fish. She was trying feverishly to beat her older male cousin (15 yo) who was at 21. I only caught 14. My little one was precious as she would call out her new total every time she caught one. The older fishermen on...

Is there more drama in softball?

I see my sarcasm didn't transfer well to the written word. Perhaps I should have said almost all DRAMA parents..... (meaning the parents who always seem to be involved in the drama happening on the team).

Is there more drama in softball?

Almost all parents see it the same way. Their DD and the 3 or 4 other stars.

Coaching Demonstrations that didn't quite work...

I also had DW helping coach and she took a full bat swing to the hand as she was placing a ball on the tee. Looks like she was trying to shoplift a Jumbo grade AA egg by sliding it under her skin on the top of her hand. I also gave the appearance from my torn calf muscle that it was nothing (in...

Coaching Demonstrations that didn't quite work...

I bought an L-Screen to help with that, but helping her pitch, I have sang soprano a FEW times.

So this is what I did, what do you think?

Also if you shield the rec players from facing the better pitchers, how are they ever going to learn to hit of a great pitcher?

Coaching Demonstrations that didn't quite work...

Once, we did this drill/game where the coaches would stand on 3B and have the girl take off from home and round the bases. Once the girl hit 1st the coach took off rounding the bases. If the coach caught the girl before she reached home (we never did) there would have been some kind of...

    need help finding tryouts

google "fastpitch + your state" e.g. fastpitch VA You should get some results. The google results may have a lot of travel ball sites, but you gotta start somewhere. You could also try googling your town + recreation, town + parks, town + softball, etc.

So this is what I did, what do you think?

I advise mixing it up. In the rec leagues I was in usually the first 1-3 innings were capped at 5 runs and 4+ were unlimited runs. I usually played my #2, #3 and sometimes #'s 4,5,6 in those early innings. It gave girls who wanted to try pitching a chance without feeling like they gave up a ton...

    Slow Runner

My DD had to go through physical therapy to help straighten her feet out. She was a P so sometimes when she would land, her plant foot would turn too much and she would end up hurting her hip. Ask your Dr about it. She might need help like mine did. Now she does much better.

I held a successful sliding clinic

Yes, yes, yes. Get them sliding early. Props to you for doing this. They take to it so much easier when younger. My 8U DD used to love to come to my 14U practices and show the 14U girls how to do it "right".

Travel Ball: Sick of other Parents & the Coach

Life also can teach this lesson: If you step into a steaming pile and you see nothing put steaming piles ahead of you, you don't continue down that path, just because you started on that path. If it becomes toxic enough, you get out. I too have been in your shoes as a parent w/coaching...

    was i right or wrong?

Never wrong for standing up for your DD. I put my DD on a team whose coach was incompetent. He would not teach anyone but the players the signals and he only went over them once (10U and 12U). So if a girl got confused, she was pretty much out of luck. He also tried to give the signals very...

    catcher backing up first

We started teaching this as early as 8U: Ball. Base. Backup. Meaning, if you are not making a play on the ball, you are covering your base. If you have neither a play on the ball or a base to cover you are sprinting to your backup position. Every play.

    Let's not have coaches!

Or at least providing coaches with instructional videos or instructional clinics. The pitching coach I worked with for my DD's would give free clinics to the local rec league to help the girls improve. She never handed out her business cards at these events. She did this so the coaches could all...

    Let's not have coaches!

That's why I always held tryouts for the parents. The best parents are whose girls were on my team. I looked for who had a truck that also had a towable grill (they made the team "for sure") The team mom who cooked good snacks (for the girls you know, I only ate the "left overs") Quiet parents...

How to handle the know everything coach???

As a coach, if a parent is paying for lessons, then I do not try to change, UNLESS the girl is failing. I had a P one time, whose parents were paying for lessons. Their girl was failing horribly from following the pitching coaches instruction. He taught speed above all else. Above accuracy...

Question about a tie in pool play

The only time I would gripe about this was if it meant showing up at an earlier time (like really early) on Sunday. We are talking about being #1 or #2 here. SO usually they don't get the early games. Using run differential in pool games is not an effective measuring stick of either teams true...
