I’m guessing your daughter doesn’t pull many balls. I’m not a professional hitting coach, but to me the biggest problem with strikeouts is usually the head. The head should remain fairly steady and see the ball out in front of the body. Watch Pujols’ head in the video below your post. Some other...
Anyone know what's going on at Loyola Chicago these days? I know they have a relatively new coach, but some Chicagoland names I expected to be on the 2020 roster aren't and some uperclass names seem to have been added just recently. (Maybe girls on some sort of academic probation or similar?)
My least talented girls from 10U & 12U are now 18 and will be playing in college next year...my most talented girls at 10 & 12 quit softball before they graduated high school. The less talented girls outworked the talented ones.
My oldest DD is 18 and will be done with travel softball in about a month which means my 10 year coaching stretch will also end. I was recently asked to share some of my original ideas (though I'm sure others have used them) with a group of coaches.
1. When girls are about 12, take your...
At a recent high school game in IL:
Runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 outs. The batter strikes out on a dropped third strike. Even though the batter is out, she takes off for first base. The base runners are holding their positions, but the catcher throws down to 1st anyways. The throw hits the...
I realize that girls who want to play in college have to do a lot of the work themselves (reach out to coaches, attend camps, Hudl pages, etc.), but do girls really get discovered at 16U or 18U college exposure tournaments? Any idea what % of girls are "discovered"?
If a team is batting 10 using DP / FLEX and an AP in USSSA, does the FLEX always have to be in the field on defense or can she sit on the bench for an inning without being substituted out?
I have 10 girls for a 14U USSSA tournament. If I bat 9, can my SUB run for the pitcher or catcher whenever they get on base (though not for both in the same inning) all game long?
In a USSSA 14U tournament (using regulation USSSA rules), if I have 10 girls, can I bat all 10 using an AP? If I use an AP and one of the other players gets injured, is an out recorded when the injured player's spot in the lineup comes up?
We will be heading to our first ever USSSA regional later this summer. Do teams generally exchange pins or other swag with opposing teams for these events?
Any thoughts on guidelines for the maximum number of pitches a 14U girl should throw in a day or a weekend? I don't want to hurt arms or exhaust them.
I have had pitchers throw 250 in a day and 350 over two days, is this too much?
In a recent 14U USSSA tournament the opposing team batted out of order:
- #5 batter made final out of the first inning
- with nobody out, #7 batter singled to lead off the 2nd inning
- #6 batter took first pitch for a strike...our team claimed the opposing team was batting out of...
I only have 10 girls available for an upcoming ASA "standard substitution" 12U tournament. Is it possible to bat all 10 girls by using an EP, or can I only bat a maximum of 9?
