I guess I'm lucky. DD (and other pitchers on her 16u travel team) take pitching warm ups quite seriously. They've all been through the nagging pains. Her coach is the opposite....does not dictate how they warm up (as pitchers). All three of them want to go D1 and have parents like me who let...
Get a lesson with Bill Hillhouse. He watched my DD pitch for about 5 minutes and asked "do you get sore from pitching?". A few adjustments and that was the last time she was sore in the shoulder.
As far as warmups go, they will change over time as the focus of her pitching changes (spins...
DD had lesson with Bill this past weekend....didn't know/couldn't tell that he had been sick with the exception of his rapidly failing humor. I just wish there were more pitching gurus around like him. Thanks for coming to Chicago (Oswego) Bill!!
I actually think (along with a lot of other coaches) that USSSA is more for 14u and under (primarily B teams). ASA has been rapidly usurped by PGF, drawing far better competition than Utrip can muster. Talk to the talking heads of Utrip and they'll tell you that their organization is for B level...
The 15U Wheatland Spikes (Van de Graf) is looking to add a quality starting pitcher or outfielder. We play primarily PGF and ASA. Indoor training 2x/week. Summer schedule includes Compuware Classic, PGF Midwest Showcase, and multiple PGF tourneys. Contact Coach Chris at vande77.spikes@gmail.com
I definitely agree with the above statement. My DD did it last August and learned nothing when it came to pitching (although we learned a lot about the windmill from doug). Bustos was awesome, but with so many kids the hands-on gets lost and the information watered down. Came home with some...
Even though I really doubt you need to let your hitters know where the pitch location is vs rec all star/travel team, doing this is what you have done all year. I wouldn't want my team to play differently based on the level of competition. I hope the other coach learned something from a 14U A team.
14y/o DD just got hers last week and threw 7 innings the other night. According to her, she didn't notice it at all...zero discomfort (has the rib pads too).
I watched my dd complain about losing her grip with a dusty ball during a game. We never practiced with a good ball again...ever. I think she's amazed by how much dust dad can actually put on a ball.
First brag...DD first home run ever (this one in a tournament) bases loaded (14U Open tourney). Excited dad seemed to have dropped an expletive deleted upon seeing the ball take flight. Sorry to those within a 200 ft radius of my yell of joy.
I'm not an expert, just a dad with a 13u player. Nice Swing! I wish my DD swing looked that good last year (much better this year with professional help).
The expert help will come soon!
I would love to see catchers calling the games by 13/14u. This means that they have an understanding of count, situation, and can identify weaknesses and strengths in the batters. Having a pitcher who can hit spots and a catcher who can make solid calls is gold.
But.....no offense GS
