Nobody’s arguing that. Most pros get very little stretch reflex or extra separation. And most won’t need to open the front leg ala Josh D.

The main point of the thread is to educate on what the stretch is for and what the legs and hips are used for. So power happy dads and coaches don’t go out there teaching their kids to create separation and drag the bat. It’s really mostly a passive move. BUT creating the stretch forward is a VERY active move and most of the time will need to be taught.

What is happening, a change in direction, over coming the weight/load?

Why is there separation? What creates the effect? A change of direction? Body over coming the weight of the arms/bat?

Why is there separation?

I would say bc the hips going forward and the shoulders going back stretching the obliques is the basic way. As the video in the first post states you could do it by going back and being a backswing loader or going just forward and being a downswing loader. Or you could do a bit of both.

I try to teach it as natural as possible with a forward move which brings the front shoulder down and in counter rotating the upper against an advancing pelvis while happening around the spine. The pelvis advancing against a resisting upper in sequence. There are many other ways.

Or maybe it helps him use the correct muscles? When I think to not rotate. I rotate tighter. I use my middle more. Maybe just maybe it helps him do the same?
Same thing here, and I mentioned this before and got laughed at. When I move forward using my middle properly rotation happens and it’s tight like you said. I might pinch my scap ever so subtle. That’s about it.

If I just think rotate and push forward using my rear leg.. not the same energy build up. And I am likely to over rotate.

That’s why I believe you just can’t say Coil while striding forward..it needs more context.

I believe this clip illustrates moving forward with the midsection very well

Try a simple forward stride and push back really hard with your front leg....so hard you actually move backwards.
Let me know.

Bobby, what is a simple forward stride? Need more definition

In the meantime, try what David Wright is doing here, there is much happening before heel plant.. or before pushing back really hard with the front leg as you define it. You might want to try it no stride like Wright does in order to feel how to stride forward using the midsection. Leading with the rear butt cheek might be a helpful cue.
