I can't imagine that they will allow this to continue. With the sheer amount of girls leaving P5 schools I think that they will act to reverse the rule.

I saw somewhere that at NFCA last week it was an early topic and they floated the correction as if you play at a school in the fall you can’t transfer and play in spring.

Wondering if this would affect all divisions if passed? I'm thinking about the Juco transfers or jumping a division transfers? If a coach leaves you can't follow for 1 year? So many issues but then again, this only affects a very small percentage of players and programs. Good topic for us to discuss though.

One thing that has bothered me about the rash of transfers is, Did the girls pick the school for the right reason? It looks like a lot of them picked the school based solely on the coach. I have stressed to my DD that she needs to decide if a school is somewhere she would attend as a regular student first. Coaches change and actually one of DD's top schools is on coach #3 this year over the past three season(Retirement, Interim, Permanent).

I understand there are situations when the athlete just is not a fit for the new coach or the new one could be a complete jerk but I don't think that is the situation with all of the ones we are seeing this year.

Choosing to go to a school based on who the softball coach is does not make it the wrong reason.

I think it's a good sign that players are allowed some of the same freedoms that coaches are.

The "rule" has not changed, only the method of transferring. Softball student-athletes were able to transfer after the fall semester (that hasn't changed), they can still follow a coach from one school to another. The only thing that has changed is how the student-athlete is able to "market" himself/herself. Instead of requesting permission of the school to contact other schools about transferring, the student-athlete now goes into a pool where all schools are able to contact them instead of them doing the contacting.

Why would the ncaa allow transfer rules to be different for different sports? Make one transfer rule for all sports and be done with it.

Some kids go to school to play softball and get an education.

Neither one is right or wrong. You need to know which one you are and do what is right for you.
