My daughter can both frustrate and elate her coaches. The reason is she hits around .400 but not the 2/5 every day. She will go 1/9 and then just rip off a 7/11 to end up around her average. When she is on she can totally carry her team offensively with gap finding doubles and triples. Coach...
Sophomore daughter playing varsity, only had 22 ab entire season as freshman. Through five games is 11/15 with a 4/4, 3/4 and 2/3 day already. Confidence begets confidence .. I know it cannot last but its fun to watch a hot streak.
I totally agree. The shift of responsibility to the girls is key in raising the level of play. Yelling in the long run accomplishes really nothing, someone said the girls tune the yelling out .. and they do. In fact they tune them out when they are not yelling so now they really don't listen...
I would have a stat that tracks balls put in play on either first or second pitch. If the stats back up that swinging at first or second pitch gets your girls on base then by all means keep it up. My opinion and I tracked that stat was your strikeouts decrease but the on base and batting...
My daughter had trouble with throws. Get a nerf football. This accomplishes two things .. if you learn to throw a spiral your throw will improve. If it wobbles then the throw was not a good one. The kid gets the feedback by seeing the ball and its not throwing a softball. These kids are...
My DD crowds the plate, which works well for her. She knows, expects and is getting balls consistently pitched inside, pitchers are learning this after her first plate appearance. Any tips/drills on improving getting barrel on the ball on inside pitches. She has a tendency to make contact...
I hear you .... my job is to help her see from a different perspective and for me .. I need to re-set my expectations. The feedback I get from her coaches is all positive, she's fast, smart, has soft hands and does whatever is asked without complaint. Her previous batting coach said she has D1...
I think the best habit is to turn the shoulders 90 as the first move, even before moving up or down. This puts you in a much better position to go back if misjudged. What I see is the girls who get beat over the head back pedal which does not work as well when the ball is hit on more of a line...
Wish more coaches had your mindset. Sometimes you get a girl you may not need to tinker with a swing and are able to focus on what areas she needs to improve.
That's the beauty of this game .. so much to learn.
Why mess with success. The nice thing about this is if she slumps you may have a viable strategy to get her back to her more natural way. It's all about how one is able to make the adjustments necessary along the way.
Thanks for your perspective and explanation on how you evaluate and play your talent. If our coach had more of this mindset I don't think it would have been an issue.
That is the art of coaching and probably the difference maker for being a real successful teacher. Each girls wants to be special and by knowing something unique about each and that you are really committed to them as a person .. they do respond.
It's not easy but I don't think it's hard...
I like stats but overall I think coaches misuse them. My DD hits for a good average, has high OB percentage and does not even know what her stats are and I don't share unless she asks. She is concerned about whether she is getting barrel on the ball. If not she knows this has to change and if...
