DIv I football (and baseball and basketball) and fastpitch are really not comparable when it comes to scenario described . . . . because of the post college opportunites in the sport. if yours and your kids dream is to play in NFL , you go with bigger name.

IMO my DD's current (second year 12U) coach does a nice job of mixing things up. They have 12 on the roster and Marcela probably plays SS 60%, 2B/3B 30% of the time and sits (but usually hits) 10% of the time. They bat 11 in pool and 10 in bracket (when the rules allow it..) It looks like everybody gets to play their primary position at least 50% of the time with their secondary positions sprinkled in there as well (pool and bracket). Not playing their strongest lineup in the field during bracket might hurt them initially a bit, but I think in the long run it will benefit the girls.

this is a great formula, if coach can develop players, he will get a lot of loyalty. a "starter" should probably see about 60% of the innings at their primary (maybe 50% if you have a 1A and 1B), and about 25% of time at their secondary position(s). everyone sits probably some. trust me, when you play those touranments in july, and if you are lucky enough to be playing your 4th or more game on sunday, you want everyone to have had some rest that day and the day before.

Recruit during try out season in August? Absolutely. However, no team can have exactly 9 or 10 play every week. vacations, injury, car accidents, etc. And the older they get, the more things draw them away, and the rosters get larger. College rosters are 20-40 girls. You're tell the headcoach if your DD's not the best 9, don't recruit my DD?? Good luck...hard pass.
I am talking 12U -- 11 year old girls.....we are not talking High School. We are talking 6th grade going to the 7th grade.

We are talking girls on an already fielded team 12U team. A bunch of 6th graders.

We are talking parents that are not looking to leave their current situation.

If she doesn't get play time now she may never get to experience what you are talking about.....I am talking 12U --- 16U/18U is a different animal.....even 14U is different as it entering High School..... 12U is really the last years of fun

we all know IF....the key word IF...my DD pans out by 16U. The A teams will still call.....but she needs play time now at 12U to make that IF happen.

sometimes in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars in education, etc lol?

And remember, we are talking about PAYING to ride pine, not receiving said education value. Give my DD a full ride to be your pinch running speedster, we might have something to talk about. Ask her to give up a full ride as the starter at a DIII school to for a partial scholarship and being that pinch-runner? Not happening.

Very similar to what we did at that level. Teach them the game. I have not met a college coach yet that cares that Sally won the Podunk Invitational with her 12u team... At 12u everyone should play, and I like the idea of playing them at different positions as well.
