Hate to be the Jeep / Mopar Debbie Downer.....not sure how many of you know, I work in a huge collision center. We repair a lot of Jeep and Mopar vehicles, many new ones and a lot that are just 2 or 3 years old, and they're falling apart! Crappy / cheap interior, they rattle, and most that are 2 or 3 years old look over twice their age! And the new price of a Cherokee is ridiculous!

And the Wrangler craze.....they ride like a wooden wheeled covered wagon!
Hmmm inside scoop...

After having several different options over time I’m turning into a Toyota man. They aren’t as fancy or up to date as any of the domestics but dang the not having to constantly fix things is a nice feature. The Fords are the OP for the interior. Just be sure to sell it before it hits 100k miles. And the GM’s will last but they are cheap inside and fall apart/wear out. Plus they get that weird security error as they get older. And the Rams.....well just no. The Jeep’s are cool. But overpriced and as reliable as any other crystler product

Can confirm on the 100k mile Ford thing. We have a 2011 Expedition. It hit about 110k and blew a rod. Mechanic (not dealership) said it’s not uncommon. Up to that point we’ve loved that rig. And continue to love it with a new motor.

It’s been paid off for awhile. Everything else is in great condition. Other than the motor quitting it’s always driven like it was new.

We won’t talk about the quality of the interior due to multiple kids in multiple sports...... which is another reason I didn’t want to start a new car payment.

I dont like Fords, but they did build one of the best motors of all time in the 4.6L
that lasts forever. Thats how the Crown Vic Interceptors went for hundreds of thousands
of miles...not to mention even the regular Crown Vic and Grand Marquis. Had a nice black 01 Interceptor and will be getting another at some point.

Honestly, not many newer cars are made to last. 100K seems to be the breaking point for many
vehicles. After that, they nickel and dime you to death. But you also get the one here and there
that breaks the mold. Also, some depends on the driver. Maintain and take care of it and you will
have better luck.

The chevys will go 220k miles on the motor and tranny if you maintain them. But the interior will be worn out. The Toyota’s just last. But They are the least fuel efficient. All of the newer big vehicles except GM seem to be giving up some longevity to meet emissions standards.

Not sure if 'The then and now' of reliability in vehicles can be compaired.
This owner experienced in the farther past
Chevy breaking down the most from unfortunately several vehicles at under 50,000 miles. Including transmission at 38,000 miles. Finally had to move on from gm.
Jeep close behind with the overheating wrangler. And ignition that would simply turn off. Then grand cherokee that was a spiders nest of electrical what the heck...
Hard to go back to either.
Purchased tacoma for reliability, which both have been reliable. Amidst recalls including an unwanted, against my permission, specifically said dont....
toyota shaved 3/4 " inch off accelerator pedal....really changing driving comfort...thankfully creative ingenuity i had a fix.
Now look into the 3rd generation tacoma,
they are not without issues.
And its not really better power or efficiency. That said,
Never had issues with Ford.
Or my samarai.

Really comes down to with the internet research can find the scoop good or bad in all manufacturing.
Maybe more importantly...
Have found exploring,
Cuz i like trucks and 4x4's...
Getting in the vehicles of today and driving them... driving experiences are deffinetly different now than back then.

Holy cow a lot happened here since yesterday!

As far as the Mopars..... JUST YESTERDAY I took my Ram work truck in for an oil change. 19,000 miles. It needed front pads and rotors! WTH! Granted it is used more like a car than a truck but I have always been easy on brakes, my personally owned Superduty that gets the wheels driven off it didn’t need rotors until more than 100k miles.

You guys have all had some pretty cool vehicles. I agree they are too expensive! I’d love to trade my 2011 diesel in on a new diesel but every truck I’m interested in is like $70k? No way!

I’m probably doing to end up with a Tundra or F-150. Maybe even the hybrid F-150, idk much about them yet. Rad and Core, those Toyota’s are just solid. My buddy works at a place that sells Toyota and Chevy/GMC. He says the mechanics all want to work on Chevy’s in the shop because there is a lot of work, but they all drive Tundra’s because you never have anything wrong with the engine.

Core the older Avalanches and the Cadillac version were just solid. At one time my work car was an ‘04 Yukon and my partners was an Avalanche. Both of those trucks were run hard for years, we put almost 200,000 miles on both. I loved that Yukon. My buddies was red, we called it the Red Rocket because he was always bumping the speed limiter everywhere he went.

Me too.

Here is my list so far-

‘76 Ford F-250 4WD with a 390 in college. Total beater. What a beast.

1990 F-150, 4 or 5 speed manual with overdrive? Can’t remember. Straight six, totally under rated truck. Two fuel tanks. Loved that truck.

Took a brief detour to a Toyota 4-Runner. ‘93? It was pretty awesome but it wasn’t a truck. Six DVD changer, lol

94ish F-350 single cab with a fuel injected 454. Truck was a BEAST. Classic looking truck.

’96 Ford F-150 extended cab 4WD . 351 engine. Only Ford I ever bought that was a lemon. Didn’t last long before I traded.

Cant remember what year- F-250 four door 4WD with V-10. That sounded better than it was. Drove the wheels off it at 11 mpg. Dang.

That needed exhaust, wheel bearings and a universal joint. My buddy bought the then new F-350 with diesel motor at about the same time and Ford was pushing out the new diesel with a $7,500 rebate on the engine alone (get the diesel for free basically) just to get the new motor out. Because of the Cash for Clunkers program, there were very few used trucks available so I did great on my trade in so I bought my current ride, a 2011 F250 diesel.

I love that truck. It’s got 150,000 miles on it and I would love to trade.... Too expensive.

One of the things I like about the Tundra is the 36 gallon fuel tank. I can drive 20 miles out of my high fuel tax state to Costco in a lower fuel tax state and fill up with way cheaper gas. They don’t have diesel.
