I'm all there for being educated, even if it's by somebody who is afraid to answer a question because they know the answer will be contrary their beliefs. Always learning, that's the key.. take a look you may learn as well.

BTW.. chopping down on the ball, knob to ball approach ruins good swings as well.. right? Funny thing is do these major leaguers who demo this actually do that in a game.. no.. but that approach works for them. My DD doesn't maintain a level swing in a game regardless of where the pitch is either (don't know how many times I have to say this), but a level swing approach helps her stay on top of a rising ball or any other ball that floats through the zone. Check out the video I posted earlier in the thread. Thome talks about Trout taking batting practice with pitches being front tossed up around his shoulders, leveling out his swing.. Why? Would he use this swing to hit a pitch around his knees in a game.. of course not. But it will help him with the high fastball borderline in the zone.

If a mental cue for someone, regardless of how far removed it is from what their actual swing looks like, produces a productive swing then I am all for it.
The brain is funny thing. The problem becomes when someone uses a mental cue on a developing hitter which is far removed from what a good swing looks like.
In this case the old adage of be careful what you wish for, it might come true sometimes applies. Remember most of these MLBers
using these mental cues you speak of probably had good swings long before anybody ever asked them about their swings and what swing thoughts they use
and for the "older" guys (Bonds,Gwynn) they probably didn't see a slow motion video of their swings until they were in the Majors. I am a decade or so younger
than Bonds and I didn't see a video of my swing until my college coach took a video (VHS.. )

Hey 5Frames, try to answer the question being asked for once.. look at the actual video/pic I posted. Is the ball losing altitude at point of contact? Let me answer that for you since you won't.. no it isn't.

The ball was not increasing in elevation as it crossed the plate.

Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean your question isn't being answered :D.

I tried to find the side view of Sara Pauly's riseball where ssarge and Rick Pauly (Pauly Girl) did the work on the riseball and how it doesn't continue to rise at the plate but was unable to find it. However, I did have the pleasure of re reading ssarge's contributions on this site. I miss my buddy. I've been at this a long time and have lost several friends along the way. There are some quality posts in those old threads and by people like Scott, BM, ...

So are you saying that a batter doesn't start his swing until they know exactly where the ball will cross the plate? In .4 seconds the ball arrives at home plate. So if my intention is to be "up and through the ball", will that swing match every plane tossed at me in fastpitch softball...no, I would have to make adjustments.

What I mean is I tell my DD to think level swing.. this helps her get to most pitches. If I told her my dd that the barrel head should come up through the ball.. she would be lucky to square up a good rise ball.. or even a ball thrown on a flat trajectory. It's the approach that works for her. I guess kind of like those MLBers that demonstrate chopping down on the ball.. do they do that in a game..no.. but that mentality helps them achieve what they are looking to do.

Comes down to what you mean by 'start'.

Given the time period f 0.4sec you are starting the clock at about the pitcher's release ... at that point the 'swing sequence' is already underway, but 'swing launch' has not taken place yet.

Connect the dots.. Draw a straight line through each dot to the point of contact.... There is an incline. You are blinded by your own ignorrance.
