OK, so I won't complain about the rain considering we have been in the 80s most of the so called winter..... Frosh DD is on JV and Varsity and pitches both but our teams are not great.

One major difference that I never saw coming was wearing spikes everyday. Last summer DD was on a running kick everyday and a couple of weeks in developed a stress fracture on her tibia. Thought it was shin splints but ended up getting an MRI and it was a fracture.

Fast forward to this season and her other leg is starting to kill her the last several days. No running on pavement and just on the field. Coach told us she would get shin splints and fractures all the time in college and the metal cleats were the culprit along with not great running form which my DD is guilty of.

Anyway, she is working through it but it is the first time that she has her metal spikes on for 5-6 days straight and 2-3 hours a day.

Going to rotate from turf shoes to metals on and off and pitching in turf shoes tomorrow night in hopes it is a little easier on her. Who would have thunk it?

My dd had a problem and we changed her cleats a couple of times until she found the ones that she could wear. (Ringors) Her college coach went to that when he found out for the team shoes.

Thanks Cannonball! I will look into the Ringors and get her a pair in hopes they are easier on her shins. Much appreciated!!

Just when I'd finally get my softball fix this Tuesday, looks like we're going to get pounder with major snowstorm...uggh..looks like we won't be able to play our first game for another couple of weeks.

I guess winter decided to show up. We have our first area game tomorrow and the high is 48. At least with the time change we will have more daylight for our 5PM game. On the plus side our concession stand is serving soup and chili tomorrow night so we should bring in some cash.

Lots of confused people around here right about now. A freshman who has been the best player in our city for her age pretty much her whole life was put on JV. She's better than every player that plays the positions she plays and would likely be a top 3 bat on varsity. She knows she's good so maybe they are testing her somehow but it doesn't gets my hopes up for my DD next year.

One of my students was supposed to have a game tonight. Two days of snow took care of that.

ETA: The sad irony is this is the first snow we've had since mid-December. And just a couple of weeks ago I had all the windows open in the house, thinking Spring was going to come early.

Went 2-1-1 in pool play in Gulf Shores. Bracket starts tomorrow. BTW it was 47 degrees with a 15 mph wind when we left the park tonight. It's cold everywhere!

Just spent some time in the AD Office. First, why would someone want to be an AD? Ours is fantastic! Simply put, he is one of the best men I have ever known. Secondly, why would anyone ever want to coach in HS? Oh, I know that answer but still, it can be so darn frustrating. Practice coming up in a few minutes. 30 MPH wind gusts and 50 degrees. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE FUN although, today is cut day.

Our AD is the V softball coach! He is fair and seems to be a good guy. There were no tryouts for Varsity this year, max preps roster was set on Dec 14, weeks before practice started. There were two freshmen who made the Varsity roster, HC/AD's DD and her best friend. They are very good players and I am happy they get the opportunity to start. Our school is filled with great ball players. While there are one or two JV players who are undoubtedly better than a few Varsity players that doesn't mean there is bias or daddy ball happening, that's just the way the cookie crumbled. High School teams are no different than travel or rec ball, politics play a big part of the decision making.
