Ok. So sitting here watching the olympics .....

In four years, how do we get our daughters a chance to compete in the Olympics in 2020?

If our dd's had a chance to play in the Olympics in 2020, we would have already been contacted.

I was watching the men's beach volleyball today and the team from Qatar was recruited to play for that country. One player was from Brazil and the other from Senegal. Maybe we should start contacting other countries???

Does anyone know why Softball was taken out of the Olympics in the first place? I was watching today and I was puzzled why ping pong is an olympic event and softball isn't.

Potentially this is viable. Know a former SEC player who was offered a spot of the Mexican team last time sofball was in the Olympics. She turned it down and regrets it to this day.

My DD can potentially carry 7 different passports so if she wants to, there is maybe a chance. However 3 of these countries you would think would be medal chances (USA/Canada/Australia) so making those teams is a stretch and the other 4 are not known to play even bad softball with only one of those countries has played in world championship since I started following the game.

Depends who qualifies and what that process is going to be this time around.

I'm going to assume that ping pong is a far more popular sport worldwide and is played competitively in far more countries. For softball to become an Olympic staple, more countries need to be competitive at it.

Ping pong is also an easy sport to stage logistically. Softball requires a softball field and stadium. Big sports will be accommodated, but that is a major strike against a borderline sport. You're better off being water polo or synchronized swimming. Put them in the same pool. If baseball and softball could use the same field, softball would have a better chance, IMO. Or if softball grows enough in worldwide popularity, then it won't matter.

If I remember correctly from before, the player must have some type of connection with the country. Even though I'm sure the IOC has made allowances for their discretion, here is a link to an answer which may help.
