Boy, Pauly sure makes pitching look easy (that second clip of him). He clearly generates great velocity making it look near effortless.

Okay, would we all generally agree that the following posture would be a great improvement, even if she uses her replant?

absolutely. Regardless of which mechanics set she uses, she needs some optimization and posture is a part of it.

I thought that You-Tube clip ^ was his explanation

I was talking more about his input on this specific kid and her situation. I think we all would be recommending the same thing if she were younger, but as a coach with a lot of experience at the college level he has seen many girls with flaws that are very ingrained and undoubtedly has been tasked with improving them while keeping them game ready. So i am sure he has great insight on the decision making process of rebuild vs. triage.

And the blunt truth is that is the fundamental decision this kid is facing IMO.

We all know how hard it is to make incremental improvement to a kid that already has the basic set of good mechanics. I have been working for two years on getting a looser, more bent elbow with my kid. One year on trying to get her drive foot more "ankle of toe" and less turned out at launch. I can't even imagine the difficulty she would face in trying to not to skip or to use brush now that she has been pitching for 4 years.

Let me ask a different question. Assuming she wants to pitch many more years but probably won't make the college cuts. What is the first thing I should have her working on fixing today?

Lots of spot on advice so far. Re-read JJ's stuff in this thread. When doing the walk through follow Rick Pauly's advice and start trying to get as much pitch height as you can. She'll start to get the feeling of the proper angle and front side resistance needed.

The push back drill is also a good one.

Looks powerful, nice work. My DD just started pitching again after 5 years because we lost all our other pitchers to other teams and other sports. Maybe it's a good thing since we are starting new with IR.

M4B,

Your DD is leaning forward and trying to muscle the ball through at release. She should be standing up straight and whipping the ball at release. I have a pitcher doing something very similar right now. She's better than she was two months ago when I got her and has picked up 5 mph with the proper arm whip. I'm trying to break the muscle memory she has. I have her doing walk through's and shadow pitching in front of a mirror. That and just the constant reminder to have her stand up straight. One que I give her is to lead with her hips, not her chest/shoulders.
