Interesting, so I would expect that with this grip and two-seam orientation that the ball will run into a right-handed batter? I will have my DD try this and see if it runs in to RHB (similar to the spin on her 4-seam grip for her screwball)?

You are correct sir! Here is the alternate grip that we use with some to help pitchers "understand the pitch".

FWIW - Jake used to throw a lights out screw and struggled with the curve, which to me is odd for a riseball pitcher. When she was a Senior in HS we were at Chipola for a friendly when Coach Jimmy Hendrix suggested a 2 seam. She tried it and learned to run it in or out. She never threw the screw again.

Late to the party on this. Does she throw this with IR?

10 year old DD has been more and more playing with two seam grip. With her basic IR FB motion, a 4 seam grip spins with 2 seams and 2 seam grip spins with 4 seam? On her new accuracy drills she is more accurate with 2 seam grip than 4 seam, but the ball tends to move more at 40' with her 4 seam grip which has been her "normal" grip.

Your daughter's hand is bigger than my 10 year old's. :)

I'm having a hard time seeing how a 4 seam grip with a good I/R motion would lead to a 2 seam rotation, seems like she would have to be really late on the I/R and basically throw what would amount to a 2 seam riser spin to get 2 seams winward with a 4 seam grip. Do you have a pic or video?

DD has been using the two seamer since this thread started and it has worked out great for her. It took awhile for her to control where it would end up but now she can hit her spots with it. The toughest thing was learning how to make it cut in on a RHB. She starts with her fingers on the right side to get it to cut in now and on the left of the seams to cut left. Probably subconsciously learned how to manipulate with finger pressure. She also throws a screwball but this has a different look and a break that looks later than her screwball.

Ha, maybe I am having a hard time seeing the concept here.

Here is DD with a basic "FB" 4 seam grip from June. Palm up just prior to release before she snaps/rotates her wrist over at release. Pending how she times it, the ball spins a straight 6 to 12 topspin or 7 to 1+, if she really rolls it over for a lefty curve-ish that runs in on a RHB. I don't have high speed footage, so just going on how I see the spin/ball motion catching and seeing pics.

If she rolls her hand straight over it is spinning on 2 seams, unless I am missing what we are talking about? :)

Definitely throws it with IR and generates a pretty high spin rate.

a) There is no difference in movement between a 2 seam and a 4 seam pitch. There is a difference in perception of the two pitches. But, the actual flight paths don't vary.
b) In baseball, some pitchers throw a 2 seam and 4 seam fastball with different arm slots. If so, then there is a difference in movement *in baseball*. But, in softball, a pitcher can't vary the arm slot.

But, if you guys want to chase unicorns, be my guest.
