The focus around "did the batter say this or that" I have almost no care at all and is proving to me again how different I must be than "most folks".

People will disagree - people will argue - no physical altercations = no big deal for the umpire & player.... Life goes on (maybe adding instant replay)

Am I the ONLY one here who has issue with the two illustrious announcers acting the way they did? For the whole year on ESPN (back through college WS) these two announcers just blindly read from prepared scripts (yes not all their fault), gleaning over multitudes of improprieties with no opinions (as they don't fit the script - but you know they are smart enough to know different), then only to get to this notorious moment and then impulsively act as judge & jury within only a couple minutes. I am sick and tired of "script-readers" on tv (announcers/media/politicians) reading prepared scripts, as to not be "offensive", only to have premiere contrast moments of uncalculated behavior when they go off-script. Why can't they have an opinion on right/wrong the whole game long?!?!?

OK - I will go get more meds.......

It had an affect on the play that inning, but if any team has to point to one play, they didn't play well enough to win the game.

QUOTE]Except they did..and this moron took it away.

Just because you're an umpire doesn't mean you have to take their side EVERY TIME NO MATTER WHAT, or make excuses for them

I didn't side with the umpire, I know it was a bad call, nor make an excuse. I have made that statement numerous times over the past thirty-plus years and believe it, even as a player.

I find it amazing that alleged adults always seem to need to find an excuse and then I remember what country I'm in.

It's pretty obvious in this particular game that what happened is NOT an excuse for the way the game ended but more a REALITY of what probably would have been. Had the game not ended the way it did there was a very high probability that they would have at least played extra innings.

It's true that most games aren't decided by one play but it's as plain as the nose on your face that this is an exception to that rule!

Talking about it may help someone, somewhere along the line. Talking about it won't change the results of this game, though. Who knows, maybe this game might help influence instant replay in championship games. Not likely but it does make for interesting, sometimes frustrating, conversation.

What better country to be in?

It was definitely a terrible call but I would be very disappointed in my daughter if she reacted like that. I'm very competitive as are my children but I'm also raising them to respect the game and authority.

Any one where something must not always be someone's fault and are the target of constant disparaging remarks and names along with demands for their job, head, balls, whatever.

I understand how you feel. I wouldn't normally be this critical but that call is just too blatant. And then for the kid to be criticized so harshly and falsely accused of vulgarities is too much. The evidence is in the video.

This is last post I'll make about this if possible. Nothing can be done about it now anyway.

Am I reading correctly? Is someone who watched a grainy video calling someone who saw it in person a liar?

Yes! Do you see anyone flipping the bird? Do you see the player following the umpire toward the dugout? Do you see any astonished fans sitting not more than about 20 feet from the player being accused of using the f-bomb? I don't either!!

How could anyone see on TV the player flipping the bird when the screen blurred out. I mentioned very early on I suspected the girl had made some type fo gesture because just after the umpire pointed for the ejection the screen blurred for a few seconds and then came back. The poster who was there in person has verified why the screen blurred out. Ever since the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" networks have live games on time delay broadcast so they can bleep or block video of obscene language or images.
