Charm, Tact, give it your best shot.

You are in a challenging situation. Best thing to do is the sandwich approach:

1)Bottom Bread.... Complement - "Excited to play a part in your team, you put a lot of work in, as parents we appreciate it etc..."

2)Meat....Your reason for meeting - "Ultimately my DD is a team player and she will work hard at whatever you ask her to do. Let me tell you about our journey in pitching and show you why she does what she does. If you could give me a few minutes to show you some clips about what she does and why she does it I would appreciate it. I would like to get your opinion on what she is working on."

3) Top Bread...Complement- "She is so excited to play for her high school and wants to do whatever she can to help the team win."

and I can't resist chiming in on public school grade inflation....

I was so proud the first time we were summoned to school because our daughter made the honor roll. It was exciting to watch almost EVERY KID IN THE FRIGGIN SCHOOL get their name called and walk up on stage. I am sure she felt special as she stood on the crowded stage. Who would have guessed that we had such an unusual cluster of gifted, high achieving kids in our community?

great quote from the Incredibles "if everyone is special then no one is".

IMO the great coaches never quit learning and improving their coaching skills.

The average coaches teach what they learned when they were playing.

I imagine that many had a negative perspective when they sailed on the Titanic and it started to go down due to the arrogance and incompetence of those at the helm. Unfortunately the only difference between the Titanic and many public-sector softball programs is that the Titanic had a band.

This is an incredibly mature way to handle the situation. As opposed to "taking your ball and going home if you don't get your way".

Something like this would be a good thing for our DD's to learn as they grow up and enter the real world. As opposed to the "I'm taking my ball and going home"

If your big D1 expitcher was such a great coach, then she would of be a college coach already.

She doesn't want to be a college coach. She had the opportunity to be an AC for a college, but she didn't want to.

Second, I don't know if she'll be a great coach. I hope she will be, but she may not. Softball knowledge is only one part of being a coach.

Personaly, you slugger want it both ways, you want to prove everybody wrong and when someone questions you or you don't like what someone says, you will just delete their post.

That is simply a lie. We have a clear policy on what is and is not allowable. Posts about politics get deleted. Sorry, but those are the rules.

As to me wanting to prove people wrong...I do enjoy a good argument. I like to hear opposing points of view. I do change my mind. I had a heck of an argument with BM, and he proved me wrong. I'm a better man for it.

I sometimes think that you are the wrong choice for an admin.

Sometimes I think the same thing...mainly because I have to be polite.

As far as your HC knowing more then anybody that comes to this site, I really doubt it, because you sir have no idea what any of us really knows.

Uh...well I actually have a pretty good handle on which guys know softball and which don't. It isn't that hard to figure out. E.g., I know that you have a lot knowledge about the game, and I respect that.

No one ever did answer the question--what is she supposed to do?

She sees a kid using poor mechanics. The kid is going to a pitching instructor. The parents want the child to pitch in a game.

She can (1) leave the child alone and not play her; (2) tell her parents that the PI is terrible or (3) put the child out there and let the team lose.

Here is what I have done in the past. Not that it's the answer.

Meet with the family. I explain that I am not a professional pitching coach, but neither am I ignorant about pitching. I am a HS coach. I coach. I work to improve individual players skills. I respect that she has a personal pitching/ hitting/ fielding coach. If she is willing to listen to me with an open mind, maybe incorporate some of what I believe in, then she will have a place on my team. If she is unwilling to even listen to me, she might as well quit the team because I don't have time for a 14yr old with all of the answers.
