If i'm allowed to Jar the ball loose at home why can't i do it at any other base?

Fielders don't wear protective gear.

I understand the concern from both sides, humans by nature don't like "change". The home plate collision ( unfortunately ) can be the highlight of a game. It gets everyone's adrenaline pumping........from the two players involved, the coaches, managers, benches, fans, and those watching at home. It's what people talk about around the water cooler the next day.

I've been around baseball much longer than softball. Most high level catchers I knew absolutely LOVED the collisions. They described it as an "art form" to control the play and stay in possession of the ball.

Looks like 22% of all MLB injuries are by collision. What the study didn't show was how many were home plate related.

Removing the collision in MLB, to me, would be like not having any wrecks in NASCAR, no fouls in NBA, no fights in NHL, no wipe outs in NHRA, NFL switching to flag football. Those few seconds of "excitement" sell tickets, sad but true.

Someone thought they'd adopt NCAA-type rules. MLB official Sandy Alderson indicated a different approach.

“The actual detail — frankly, the kinds of plays that we’re trying to eliminate — we haven’t finely determined. But what I would expect is to put together 100 of these plays and identify which ones we want to continue to allow and others that we want to prohibit and draft a rule accordingly.”

I'd like to see MLB adopt something like our FP rules because it would cut down on the ignorant dads thinking current MLB rules apply in youth sports.

@MLB thank you for the new collision rule! I addressed this with MLB after Posey was nailed. It's taken too long!

@MLB The collision I had in 75 with Gary Matthews in April crushed the AC joint and I had 6 cortisone shots every 3 weeks.

Concussions is the real issue here and since most catchers remove their helmet this arguement to me doesn't hold weight. If i can run a catcher over i should be able to run over everyone. Collisions are unnecessary and should be avoided at all costs.

“I lost time as a catcher being run over a couple different times, but I thought it was part of my job, and I enjoyed the contact,” Joe Girardi said. “Now I’m not so sure that everyone enjoys contact. But I love football, so I liked it.”

I don't want to go back and forth quoting professional catcher's opinions, but I'd bet for every 1 who don't like collisions..........you'd find 2 who do. ( just my experience and opinion, nothing more nothing less )

I believe the rule is a catcher can not block the plate without the ball ....with ball in glove ...no OBS with out ball OBS

Yes, I get that.

What I want is when there is a close play at the plate, AND the catcher does not have the ball in hand or glove, AND my runner would have been safe had the plate not been obstructed, that Blue call OBS. I've had that scenario several times the past few years and not once have I had that call go my way.

Not sure how much baseball you've been around, but with a runner in scoring position, most catchers leave their mask on. Also, never just think you'll "run over the catcher". My catcher in college was only 5'10 200, in four years I only saw one runner get him off his feet. We called him "wall of Jericho" lol.

When they changed the college rule in 2011 I didn't die and still enjoy the game, I probably won't die if they change the MLB rule.

As a side note, I personally believe this move has a lot to due with the open lawsuits in the NFL as oppose to the "concerned safety" of the players. In another words, it's all about the money, MLB is jus trying to modify the rule before the lawyers come knocking at the door.
