Lol. Let me spin a yarn. Local school. Stud 8th grade pitcher. Yup. 8th grade. Came in, took the seniors spot. Won state. She didn't lose a game as a starting pitcher. Unless you look at travel. She only got 2nd in state in 14u. HS team rallied around her. She gave them the best chance to win. They knew that. It's amazing how these girls actually understand that if they aren't the best, they won't play over another....and are fine with it.....so long as the culture they are brought up in isn't one of entitlement.

Top 25 in the nation by who's merit? How many teams from other states did you play? Give us some links to prove your point, I always provide articles to prove mine. Without proof, my DD leads the world with an undefeated pitching record and has hit over .800 in her entire career.
Maxpreps is the only national rankings I know of. The computer one's are bogus because not everyone is on the computer. The human one. The End of Season rankings are the only one that matters, among the continuous Maxpreps string, as only after playoffs is it seen where the cream has risen to the top. It is still there.
You all are completely missing the story. It is not about the particulars (even though all are true). It is not about stats.
It is about a terrific SENIOR pitcher, who because of her experience, savvy, ability to bond, and rally her team, get beaten down previously, standing back up ........ beat a SOPHOMORE pitcher, who on paper is better, but has not done any of these things, because she is too young.

Ummm, there are MLB pitchers who on paper or statistically better get beat all the time, it happens. And a pitcher vs a pitcher is not the only equation involved. A stud pitcher with little defense will not win over a above average pitcher with a great defense. So just saying a senior beat a sophomore is really NOTHING. All the facts would have to be presented to make that claim valid, the playing field would have to be equal.

It is just a story that had a huge affect on life, my daughters life, and supports my belief that older players on the high school level are better the vast majority of time.
College is different. But in high school. You cannot judge a player until you watch them for at least a full season, not a tryout.
Go ahead, pick all the hotshot youngsters in high school. I will take my veterans and win more than you.
Of course this example is ONE isolated example. Someone else can just as easily come up with a true story saying the opposite.

I think you're a good storyteller, and in your mind this magical senior is some gift from heaven. I'm going to guess this player is your daughter or a friends daughter, and at some point she got mistreated and then won a game against the one who did the mistreating. I can respect that individual accomplishment.
BUT, I think you lack a great deal on how the high level system works. How proffessional people grade a true winner or winning team. National rankings mean NOTHING, if you don't play NATIONALLY.
One more time, prove to us your system by providing links to media. Surely a #25 ranked team has some ink somewhere.

My bad. Took SC to be Southern Cal, but although I don't question your story, I believe its much more the exception than the rule. However, I still stand by my initial statement regarding Cali.
