Good question.
The intent should definitely be to have enough front side resistance so as to avoid the extra step. The above video is really slowed down so it is difficult to get a feel for the amount of linear energy Sarah is generating in her walkin....it is substantial. She is able to get relatively stable at time of release but just can't hold it totally as you can see.

Sarah is clearly a very powerful pitcher. I can tell she's generating a great deal of "linear energy!" And, "linear energy" is a great description of it.

This is a great video. Getting control is all about having it. Control = Control. Having control of your body allows you to control the ball. Great share, Rick... as always.

Tried this today. LOVED IT! DD is 13 and I think it is great for teaching her she can throw as hard as a walk-in pitch and still hit her spots. Took about 3 pitches each type of pitch and location to hit the location her first time trying this. She had the most difficulty reigning in her curve. She gets enough momentum that she ends up with a "Danielle Lawrie" hop when trying to maintain resistance. She can't wait to do this again.
