But better, much better IMO, would be to include the importance of an ‘early’ and ‘slow’ start into a good swing sequence. Timing, IMO anyway, should include the ‘early’ and ‘slow’ start … it is not a small detail, and is actually quite important.

FFS we are in agreement here, slow to load, soft to touch.

Thanks for all the insightful replies. I was referring to teaching young hitters, and I believe that requires the ability to explain a fairly complex process such as hitting in a way that simplifies things for them. While many of the replies have been fairly sophisticated, they have all been clear enough to allow a coach/parent to impart this information effectively to the player(s).
