Our last payment is December and then we pick up again in April. We are actually considering reducing the monthly payment and going year so parents can set up a regular payroll deduction. the finances for 16U-18U is a different animal because you have showcases that often must be paid months in advance to secure a spot. As such we try to stay about 6 months ahead of all expenses. It really does not matter when you pay the question is the net cost. If the net cost makes sense then it really makes no difference when you pay.

What is the norm regarding 16U and 18U teams collecting dues during HS season? Around here most teams are dark during HS season.

Parents need to know the team fees, within a reasonable range of certainty, up front. In our area they are typically $1000-1500/year. Each team can decide how they want to collect the fees. Up front, semi-annually, quarterly, monthly, weekly. If parents are on a monthly payment plan based on 12 payments, there would be payments due during the HS season.

Cuzmail, you may already know this with my DD's team. In the fall we pay half of the fall dues at the beginning of the season and then the other half in November. We pay nothing during high school. Summer rolls around and you pay your summer dues in one lump sum. If you are considering a new team, why not join in May, and not have to pay the dues during spring? What it boils down to is the Annualized cost. I guess paying monthly dues makes it easier for many parents who find it difficult to come up with a lump sum. More than one way to skin a cat.

For most you have an upfront amount so you can do the things like order uniforms, get into fall tournaments/leagues, reserve facilities, etc. then most will let you pay out over the year but have deadlines for amounts like half by X date etc. then you usually need to be all paid up by May/June so all the entry fees for tournaments can be paid and coaches are not begging for money from the last few stragglers as the season winds down.

Biggest thing I can say is be OPEN and UPFRONT about WHEN you expect payments and WHAT the parents get for their money!

There is no 'norm' regarding 16/18U. There are many outlying factors as to whether they play
showcase schedules etc. Good showcases have to be paid several months in advance. For summer season
we send out the budget in January with all accounts paid in full by June 1st-NO EXCEPTIONS!
This age group is much more expensive as we take into consideration Hotels/Flights/Team vans etc.
IT is also a good idea to become a Marriott Rewards or IHG member as there are lots of hotel nights during this
approx. 3year window. This does not take into account the possibility of paid coaches. It is not uncommon
for team cost to be in excess of 2K for summer not including flights and hotels

All Over I Coach TB
We are year around $125 per month. $325 start up for new players. As coaches will tell you there are still bills to be paid for TB organizations even when HS season is going on. We have to pay 11 months in advance for most big showcases, pay for lights, A/C, and rent on indoor facilities, insurance, maintenance on nets, new balls for cages and practice ect.

We still offer 2 hitting sessions per month for our players during HS season, if HS coaches are OK with it. No defensive or pitching. Not an issue since most of us are the HS head coaches in our area.

Gotta feed the monster.

Our fees were $250/month for September, October, and November. Then it was $200/month for January, February, and March. There was a final payment of $150 in April for a total of $1,500. HS ball here has tryouts in mid-February and games start in late March and can go into the first week of June if you make state.
