I would try a bigger softer ball and have her use 2 hands. After that, gradually go smaller. It is probably the glove that is causing the problems. Throw a tennis ball up in the air and catch it. Count how many times she can do that and act like it is the best thing in the world.

Tell her that the glove fingers should be up (but don't harp too much on it, right now) and tell her to squeeze the glove. Also tell her to let the ball come to her and don't "bat it away" with the glove.

I am trying to teach a 3YO to catch and I think it might be impossible, although I just bought her a gigantic ball for Easter. :)
