You’ll see a similar actions in many athletic movements, including throwing, windmill pitching, etc. In prior posts I’ve described this as the act of thoracic extension. It is a big part of the throwing process, providing upper body resistance and stability.

Now you are taking a page from Wasserman's stuff which is very good btw.

And again - you are throwing around big words and cues, but should you just extend your middle back to get the elite movement?

What happened to just "Turn the Friggin Barrel" as your advice to every mom and dad looking for guidance?

And did you abandon Around/Along as your advice du jour? What happened to Dr Yeager being the cat's rear?

Some folks wish to redefine and distort earlier views of what was meant to have the rear leg in charge. That shouldn’t be taken to mean that they are describing a different movement pattern. They are simply defining the same movement pattern while distorting prior views that targeted describing the same movement pattern.

Those that have been around for a while will recall the numerous pleas to “read Dixon”. I must have read that plea in a hundred plus posts.

Dixon’s book, “The Exceptional Athlete” … about two decades old at this point.

Dixon: "The back leg must be in a rigid – supporting mode".

Dixon: "the legs are braces for the torso to work on".

What do you think was meant by the cue of a ‘rock solid rear leg’?

What do you think was being described by all the discussions on ‘posting’?

If folks feel they have invented something new, then that’s fine. They didn’t. But the descriptions and discussions are good. The more ways we find to describe the same actions, the greater the probability that these actions will sink in with folks.

Shhhh .... TDS is still using the queue... constantly.

Chris, I use the queue "work the barrel"(within the sagittal plane) constantly.. I want that to be synced up with the core/spine movements. So as the student begins to move correctly the hands should follow that movement not lead it.

Just keep throwing everything into the blender (sorry on healthy smoothie kick so the analogy fits)...

You do realize that this is a good description of your journey with the various usernames and all. Not saying that is bad ... because it is not. Mike Candrea himself is always looking for an improved understanding and better ways to teach. The attitude of always learning is a healthy attitude.

And in all of your writing you still cannot come close to explaining how the lateral bend is created and how it creates other actions.

What is interesting is that you and TDS have written many posts and have struggled greatly to have your model of the swing well understood ... at times leading the two of you to go on a spree of deleting posts. If you understand the process so well, then why has it taken so long? Why all the deleted posts?

Nice try Five.. "the truth" At the time of the bb/a$$ discussions some of us were trying to share the core movement pattern and folks weren't having it... So it was kind of like fu!@em there loss.. Since that time folks have been more open to hear more about it.

No I don't view turn the barrel (dump it) the same as working the barrel.. Working the barrel is an ulnar/radial deviation movement within the sagittal plane..
