Mid 40's is good for 10U around here. I've spent the last 3 years watching 10A and B ball and have only seen a couple in the low 50's. Those pitchers could throw it by almost anyone so they didn't develop any other pitches and are a lot less effective at the 12U level.

I cannot tell you how many 12U flame throwing phenoms I know that did not bother developing other pitches because they could just throw the ball by everyone. By 14U or 16U batters had caught up to the speed and they were rocked.

There are also a couple of flame throwers in college who never bothered to develop a change up because they have been blowing pitches by batters since they were 12. Guess what? SEC batters are trained to catch up to 70 MPH fastballs!

Just wondering where 44-45 mph stacks up for a 10 yr old from 35 feet. Threw a 12 in RevFire today with her pitching coach.

Fast but hittable. As suggested, good movement pitches (curve/screw) with a change can make that unhittable. Groove a 45 mph fastball (often enough) and even my daughter's B team can take care of that!

We use a revfire at lessons as well. I always joke that the pc will lean in to catch the ball earlier...just before a rate increase. ;)

Low to mid 40s is good for a first yr 10 in our area and Mid 40s to 50 are your better pitchers for 2nd year 10s. The most I have seen for a 10u pitcher was 57 on radar (game speeds), that same girl is throwing consistently 62 mph as a second year 12u player. The top 10u teams have girls throwing 52-55mp. I have seen some first year 12s who are not even hitting 45 mph in games.

Sounds like some heat in Texas! Is that girl throwing strikes?

Annesdad, I really dont know if those numbers are good or not compared to other states. My daughter's team as second year 10s had 3 pitchers throwing 47-51 game speeds. I know with two of their top speeds were 52 and 54mph on my pocket radar., the 3rd was still 50 or 51. From what I saw with TX and LA teams, they had good speeds but there were always a few who were throwing faster. Hillhouse made the comment that my DD was throwing faster than most 10u players he worked with but from what I had seen it was not that much above many of the girls we faced in tournaments. I know the 04's and 03 age groups are very strong in TX. Just look at the Texas teams in the 12u PGF this year and 10u PGF last year.
