I don't think a Player should stop on a double. Do run the Plays out.
however I would stop running on passed balls and overthrows. also stop working the Count against a struggling pitcher. Don't swing at pitches in the dirt (because that creates bad Habits) but swing at the first strike you get (even if it is an Inch off the plate) even when it is 3-0 - think about practicing two strike hitting. if you get thrown 4 pitches over your head take the walk though. if you don't run on passed balls and try to Limit your own walks that should be enough opportunity for the Opponent to end innings.
