I have seen UIC try to use the equipment on a suspected bat and quit in frustration saying "No one trained me on this"

I thought they had to send the bat away to be tested I didn't know they could test them on the spot?

Yes some tournaments they do test on the spot. Once a bat passes testing they put some sort of permanent sticker on it. When I say permanent I mean that it can't be taken off one bat and put on another (it will come off though).

I look forward to the day when they can test at every tournament...

Ours are tested before each HS game, only takes a few mins. No excuse why tournaments can't.
