We just started trying to use a high tee drill and one handed tee drills last night. I would like to hear how you guys use them. I would like for this to be a part of our daily hitting but want to make sure we are using them correctly. We had to improvise with a cone and cooler my tee is wore out. lol

Oooh I like her athleticism and swing very much. I DON'T like how she's performing the top hand drill. To me, the top hand drill's goal is NOT to focus on slotting the elbow but about understanding the role of the top hand. The way she executes it, her hands are mostly dead and she's focused instead on slotting her elbow rotating her shoulders to get barrel to the ball. It's more of a "one-piece" hand move versus load and turn/torque which is two-piece.

The interesting thing is she doesn't swing like that -- her hands are very alive and her top hand works well.

So my two cents is her current top-hand drill technique would actually move her swing backwards.

Instead, focus her top hand on loading (ie, point knob to catcher/elbow jut) and torquing handle/turning the barrel with a focus on "live and independent hands" -- an old Candrea phrase that actually is a nice swing thought.

One hand drills can be a very challenging move to perform, which is why I am very careful with them -- top AND bottom hand. It's a lot like hitting a TCB ball. If girls do those drills with a goal of simply hitting the ball squarely -- which can be very challenging -- versus executing a good technical swing, they can potentially create all kind of workaround moves (like sweeping or pushing) that aren't actually beneficial to their full swings.

Thanks for the information I didn't think we were using the top hand drill correctly and was not sure how it was meant to be used. I was hoping it could be used to train the hands to attack from the inside of the ball sometime she swings around the ball. Which might be a timing issue hitting not letting the ball get deep enough. I want to introduce some new drills but definitely do not want to regress. The high tee I used to try and keep her hand path a little more direct she lets the bat head get a little low and results in more fly balls than I would like which if they go out that's great but if not can lead to outs. Thanks for your input.
