I was at the rec fields last night scouting for the 14U tourney team when a fellow dad asked if I could play on their adult slow pitch softball team. There were a player short and since my DD wasn't with me I took him up on the offer. This was my first adult softball game in two years and these are my observations:
1) I am out of shape. Legs and arms sore. Need to exercise more.
2) Teaching someone how to hit a softball and and actually hitting a softball are very different. Went 0 - 3. Ground out, pop-out, ground out. At least I made contact.
3) Either the team had full respect for my throwing arm or they stuck in me in right field to hide me. Hoping for the former but figure it is the latter.
4) Should have gone home and got the cleats. Damp grass, sneakers, face plant.
5) Caught a deep fly ball to right with 2 outs and kept the go ahead run from scoring. Felt really good. Got high fives.
I had a great time and need to get out there more often. Tough to do with practices and tournaments.
