Two high school seasons I used my homemade - all items at Home Depot except for rubber:
- Interlocking playground tiles (folded at one seam - where she does not land! - for easier transporting)
- matching length of I/O carpet-turf.
- contact cement to adhere the carpet & squares (again except for the handy folding seam)
- hardware to squeeze-mount the rubber (flush on both sides - to not scar floors)
Duct taped to floor to not slide around
After one season I switched the side the rubber was on and had a "new" landing area for season #2
On my DD's mat I cut a small slit on the underside and inserted a dog toy squeaker into it in the area to the left of the line where she was landing. Instant feedback. Dog didn't like it though.
We got the Jennie Finch mat. Used constantly for a over a year and still in great condition. The rubber is chipped and scraped, etc, but nothing I wouldn't consider normal wear and tear.
