This is the first body protection I have ever seen on a pitcher. Maybe half the kids I see where facemasks.

isnt that amazing!
Glad to have poster about this!

i wore knee pads all the time.
Even Under my shin guards!
Helped keep them in place.
Great for batting to protect me and of course running bases sliding and diving.

That looks like a sliding pad. Probably too much effort to put it on just for batting, so she wore it for entire game.
Not just for hitting.
Its for NOT being hit and taken out because of injury!

Imagine landing on you front leg its 35 feet away from a batter hitting a rocket.

Nowadays pitchers land about 38 feet away but the ball is a super rocket.

Also consider beginners... ;)

? Cant recall fielding masks being available back then.

Heres a tid bit
College didnt require hitters to wear batting helmets in softball but baseball had to til '1987.
