The last academy where I taught at worked with all aspects of softball and baseball students. One of the fielding / catching instructors taught me a very simple and valuable lesson.
Give a fielder a half sized football, one that looks and feels like a real one, not a foam or plastic one. If you can teach them to throw it OH in a spiral, you just taught them how to throw a softball or baseball with the correct mechanics because they are exactly the same.
This method is ESPECIALLY effective at getting a new young catcher to stop throwing those slow high arcing throws to second base that any runner can beat out. Also works great to get the young ladies to start throwing like athletes and stop throwing like 'Girls'.
