They lie?? In all seriousness, they probably think they do because somebody told them when they were kids that they were supposed to...

I think its a good cue to keep eye on ball.. a lot of good things happen with head movement or lack there of when you do.. but I don't think a hitter can actually see the ball make contact with the bat
