If they have difficulty grasping the going backwards then they will probably never warm up correctly.

A different way to skin that cat is to show them how to progress through a pitching warm up.........typically short distance to full distance and typically starting in the "A" quadrant then in the "B" quadrant etc.

If a pitcher grabs a ball and the first warm up pitch they throw is full motion/full distance it is highly probable that pitcher will have a short career.

"A" may be the most important, but it often doesn't make sense to students of any age to go backwards. If my golf teacher did not let me take full swings when I was learning and only focused on partial swings or chipping (or how well I was at putting), I would have been out of there. Thank goodness he didn't....a student next to me had to suffer with her instructor like that...it was not pretty.
