Monday brag 7-11

OK weekend when 3-0 on Saturday, but really didn't play that well. Lost in Semi's in a nasty game.

Highlight though was a girl that hit her first HR on Saturday and gets up next inning in a game still in
doubt. We have our fastest runner on third and they can timeout to talk to P. I ask her if she wants to
have some fun and try a suicide squeeze. Runner breaks and kids lays down an average (but perfect suicide)
bunt and runner slides in way ahead of tag. She was more proud of that than the HR.

Team played in a showcase and did very well. Finished the weekend 4-2 against some good competition. Several players including DD received some "looks" throughout the weekend. A huge thank you to rdbass for suggesting this tournament to us. It was well worth the time and the girls enjoyed the trip. Always good to talk hitting with you as well

This brings up a scoring question. DD doesn't bunt much. She isn't exactly quick... But we were down by 1 with a runner on third during one of the games. The defensive team called a time out so our coach talked to DD asking if she thought she could get a bunt down. Her standard answer is "sure". Anyway, he called for the suicide. She placed a perfect bunt down the first base line and the runner had a good jump. The pitcher fielded the bunt and tossed it home, but it was too late. Runner scored and DD was safe at first. So is that a fielder's choice, a sacrifice, or a hit? Does she get credited with an RBI?

As far as bragging goes, DD finished the weekend batting .417 overall and .800 with runner's in scoring position. She also pitched in four of the six games with a 1.56 ERA. Very good weekend for her and her teammates.

Same here. It's nice to get company once and awhile in the outfield.

Not a great weekend for DD and her team. They played at the Illinois state ASA tournament. Afternoon pool games got rained out Thursday, but they could have easily had the fields ready and played some games. It's a long way to go to get a 4GG cut to 2. Friday was straight to bracket play at 8 am. For whatever reason they can't get going for early games, and it was an ugly one. Played way better the second game and were in it till the end, but that loss sent us home. DD had kind of a meh weekend. 2 for 5 with a sac bunt. She dropped a pop fly and made a throwing error, which is very uncharacteristic of her. After each error she did come back and make a play and didn't get overly discouraged.

DD had a great weekend. She had struggled with hitting in 2 tournaments in June. Coach had moved her down from batting 4th all the way to batting 9th in one game. She started to come out of her slump at the the previous tournament. This tournament our speedy left handed slapper was away on vacation. After trying another teammate in the lead off spot on Friday the coach came to my DD and asked if she thought she could hit lead off. She said yes. DD responded by going 14-25 on Saturday and Sunday. The highlight was her being given the green light to swing 3-0. She has always said she would never swing at a 3-0 pitch because she was worried about not hitting it well. This time she did swing and hit a hard line drive to the SS for an out. I think the fact that she had enough confidence to understand she was seeing the ball extremely well and the coach wanted her to hit if the pitch was in her zone and she did means that she is starting to understand the mental part of hitting better. It is amazing what a little confidence and aggressively attacking the first pitch can do.

DD's team played in the ASA state 18U tourney. We ended up runner-up after battling back through the losers bracket. If you want the details on how the team got screwed out of the championship check out my seperate post. ��

DD had an amazing weekend which she really needed for her self confidence since she started out the season with a bit of a slump. This weekend (8.5 games in 28 hours) she batted a .533 with back to back HRs in game 5 and a total of 12 RBIs. The icing on the cake was when we run ruled a team of "all-stars" from our side of the state to get into the championship game -all but two were either returning freshman colllege players or graduated HS seniors headed to their freshman year of college softball. She has played with or against all of them so she knew exactly which pitches to call. Made our weekend!
