After briefly skimming threw this pile of ____
Since i dont really care for political opinions, of any sort,
its obvious to me
i LIKE DFP FOR THE SOFTBALL DISCUSSIONS !

Even while acknowledging all the seperate perspectives...
We can see that our common element 'softball'
continues because
WE WANT TO
WE ARE still involved with this sport. In state, out of state, in your state, in our state. Even playing with no chaulk.
Yet still playing!!!

That is what stands out to me!

There will always be
Different views
Seperate views
They = Diversity
And DIVERSITY IS A HUGE REASON SOFTBALL IS SO AMAZING!
Something for everyone in softball!

Rec in my neck of the woods is pretty much the same as it has always been. They didn't have a spring league but did have fall ball. The numbers seem consistent with years past. Once the girls hit 12u most of them that have the ability or means seem to leave rec for good and just play travel ball. Baseball seems like they tend to finish up 12u and then move on.

It seems like at the younger ages rec in CA has been a lot better than most other states so the original question, without all the other garbage tacked to it, is actually a pretty good one. If he had just asked:

"Will the Covid restrictions put in place in CA, and the current movement towards TB because of it, have a lasting effect on Rec in CA"

the discussion would have gone a lot better....I don't think he actually wanted to have a discussion though and just wanted to rant.

Of course things like city sports programs will continue when allowed again.
They are for the most part ran on the efforts of volunteer parents.
There will be an up incomming crop stepping into those roles for their children.
Just sayin'
Dont think anything will stop parents from providing for their children.
Local and less expensive is a stepping stone of opportunity...that is a lot more than one sport...like day care and summer day camp programs that are currently allowed still have kids in them.

I am talking about thriving, not continuing. We have rec here but it is crap. From what I have read here,
the rec programs for 10U and under were very good in CA.

This influx of young people heading to travel has been happening for years now.

Think 12u is a common cross the bridge to travel age.

However i do think people are starting kids at younger ages.
Starting under 8 years old.
Like at 6 more and more.
Thats what trended travel for some at 10u.

Plus keep in mind there are many many rec leagues clustered near each other.
So each league gets less teams cuz players are spread out.
(Less rec leagues would equal more internal rec competition by having more teams?!)
instead they play outside of their own rec league .... to play other rec leagues
Making it travel'ish ;)
