Yep... and every hitters Daddy thinks the same thing....

Anyways... They were all 2 seam 1/7 spin... you can see the tape... it was from last year's winter work, getting ready for the big 7th grade team

Here it is in game speed...

... all 3rd strike swinging.

Which pitches are the screwballs?

There is no such thing 'late-breaking movement' of the ball. As the velocity slows and rotation slows, the Magnus effect decreases and the ball breaks less as it approaches the batter, not more.

Actually the loss in velocity can and should be significant, while the loss of rotation is not. As a result on a good pitch there is often more movement at the end of the pitch than the start. Since the ball is decelerating it has more time to move at the end of the pitch than the start. Hence the late break effect.

...And, as I've mentioned, the best movement pitcher there ever was in softball was Cat Osterman. If anyone should be able to throw one, she should. But, she doesn't. Yet, for some reason every daddy thinks his 12U DD can throw one.

Ever??? Did not realize your experience was so limited. :)

DD has a good drop, curve, change and when inside usually a rise is most effective. Have had good results inside with a two seam fastball with an inside angle.

Sorry... non of these in game you seen it in clip above the game ...SCDR.... It was curveball Game. She won't throw a screw @ the little girls her age... Just the big girls... 16U & Up. But its the same 2 seam 1/7 for curve.

I just put that up to show sluggers "game speed" ..... not sure why he typed that???? The only game speed we are working on is "Her" Games.

If your watching it on phone, & can't view on the You-tube page full... then just watch nothing but catchers glove...I know you don't have a line, like on a mat... but she lands the same on every pitch.

Wrong. What you say goes against the laws of physics. Please post evidence, video works, backing your statement up.

Actually it is all about the physics. This will get you started. :)

Physics 101

Seriously, your assumptions include at best linear or worse case no declaration which ain't the case. Once you realize that deceleration occurs and that it is not linear you will understand what occurs. BTW - You made the statement denying the existence of the late break, it is up to you to jump through the hoops just like the folks who proved Global Cooling. I meaning Global Warming. No climate change. Settled science, that's the ticket! :)

Agree with sluggers that the effectiveness of screwball is the angle and location of the pitch rather than the movement. At best, the screwball has 1/7 (not 3/9) rotation and most seem to be more bullet spin than anything else. Don't know if you guys remember Meg Langenfeld (UCLA) in the 2010 WCWS but she threw 80% screwballs and they were primarily angled, bullet spin pitches; however she could locate the pitch very well and it was effective for her. IMO, its extremely difficult (if not impossible) to get pure side spin on the screwball and maintain a high velocity on the pitch.
