Interference no-call - how to approach the ump

I have found the best way to approach an umpire crew is to start with the question, "So which one of you is the designated driver?".

Or, if you've already used that one (and weren't asked to leave the premises), "Which one of you has read the rulebook most recently?"

Luckily, the umpire at a recent game knew that I was kidding when I told him, "I have a rule book written in Braille in the dugout if you need it".

One of our parents always breaks out this cheer when he thinks the blue needs help:

"Give me an I"
"Give me another I"
"Now give 'em to the blue"

Sometimes the blue laughs sometimes they don't think its funny. Go figure!

Love parents who make our job as coaches harder. Ah well.

This is how it has gone in the past with the parents prodding the umpires for their own amusement.

First time conversation with parent:

"That was funny but now the strike zone is smaller than the ball. Don't do that again."

Second time conversation:

"You can now sit out behind the center field fence in our bad parent dugout."

Third time conversation:

"We love your daughter but you can't come to games any more"

My standard answer to this question is......"A heck of a lot more than you've got, coach!"

I will never offer a bribe to an ump for a fair game. Getting calls to go my way, however...
