How to score this play

We had this happen a couple of weeks ago. I posted about it in the rules forum. Runner on 3, batter attempted to sac bunt but the ball rolled up the foul line. Third base let it roll to prevent runner from going (and hoping it would go foul) so batter reached safely. I scored it sac bunt safe on fielder's choice. Which led to the batter's mom asking me why her DD didn't get credit for a hit...

That's different. You must possess the ball in order to make fielder's choice. A fielder's choice is not about the choice of whether or not to field a ball. In the case you describe, I think it would be a hit.
