A recent post was talking about a dead bat. Turned out it had a crack. Leads me to my question. How many hits should a bat get before it needs to be replaced? If you look at the life of a bat, it gets a lot more work than I ever imagined. Take a typical in season week. Between Tee work, soft toss and BP, I'd say minimum 100 hits a day. That happens 3-4 times a week. Now add games on weekends with warm ups before games. I would say a normal bat gets about 500 hits a week. You could easily put 8000 hits on a bat over a spring/summer season. So if the magic number is 10000 hits, you would need to replace a bat yearly? With the cost of these bats between $200-$300, I am looking at spending over $2k in bats between now and the start of college. Now add a few lessons in there and I figure to have quite a few dollars invested in DD's swing.
