Doesn't this promote an arm swing?
If the hitter actually sat in the seat. I'm guessing that would then have to promote an arm swing. If the hitting coach knows the supposed purpose(Guessing) and the hitter just 'skimmed' the seat that needs to be a swivel seat.Doesn't this promote an arm swing?
I'm guessing on Nebraska's purpose of the drill. The degree the center of gravity lower varies and it is mostly based on the hitters original stance and the amount of forward momentum he uses. But no matter, the hitters goal is to 'stay on the bar stool'. Stay on his pedestal which is his rear leg. The hitter does not allow his weight to shift forward. The stretch is 'around' the rear leg and up the back to the scap. The front side has no involvement in this stretch process. Pedroia's lead leg extends forward involuntarily to maintain the body's balance. It moves much like your arms move when walking. You don't think about it. But they move on their own to provide balance
Not the best swing but one I have handy right now:
rd, you cut some important stuff out when you made the gif. Take a look at the video I posted. BB checks her feet. She checks that bat and places that bat in a very specific location. She then tilts forward before standing up. All of those steps are the drill. She is working on a couple of things here. For example knee chase and pulling the bow back. Notice her back elbow in a relaxed position until she lifts with tilt. That elbow raises for the tip and rip. She slams that heel down and then the back knee chases the front. Notice that she is slightly open when she commits to the swing. That ball would be middle in and more in than middle. In this particular drill, she works on so many different things. This video was taken when she was making the switch to standing open in the box and so, she is preset in the landing position.
In the lessons we give, we use this drill to teach the following at various times in the progression of a player's swing development:
- knee chase
- pulling the bow back.
- tilt
- pitch location
- finish high
- back hip
- controlling the middle
As I said, this isn't the best video and BB is a little too far forward. Still, you get the point for how a chair can be used. Many of you know that I followed Englishbey for a very long time and consider Steve a friend. I want to make clear that he would not approve of this swing so I would appreciate it if no one attacks Steve for what we do. I am responsible totally for my kid's swing. (I do appreciate all of the help from those that were privy to the various videos I sent out privately.)
No critic of the swing from me. I'm just 'passing' along a gif to go along with your information. Again I thank you for sharing. I'm sure other dads/moms agree. As I said, this isn't the best video and BB is a little too far forward. Still, you get the point for how a chair can be used
So you can see what we were working on in real application:
Take a look at the knee action. Look at the arm action and pulling the bow back. This ball was hit some serious distance.
