My DD and several of her friends from her rec team have decided it is time to make the move up to TB. We are holding tryouts in 2 weeks. We have 5 girls total from the rec team and posted flyers and web bulletin board postings about the tryouts and we have received 17 RSVPs. I was wondering what everyone's preferred method(s) of evaluating hitting are? Do you have the girls hit off of a tee? Do you use front toss? Do you use a pitcher? Do you use another method or a combination of methods? We do not have access to a pitching machine for this tryout, so that is not an option.

My initial thought is to front toss from behind a screen from about 25' away.

Any suggestions or input will be greatly appreciated!

Front toss with screen is my favorite. Work all corners and mix up speeds a lot. Look specially for details in her approach like her timing. Is she early, on time, or reactionary... don't overlook short game drills either.

We use a machine. Love to use a pitcher, but we have found it to be time consuming with bad pitches. Can't say enough on the short game. If you can't bunt in softball we don't want you.
