I think what might help Buckeye is if we had a video of what a swing would look like if someone swung at a pitch the way you have to swing the toy to make the ball go into the net. Any bad swing GIFs floating around out there for a comparison?

Seeing that contrast might make the light go on.
Here are a couple I found on youtube, these are not my players nor do I know if they are doing it correctly or whatever. There are not that many videos out there and I will take some from my daughter when we hit next but this is a similar result to what our kids do. I guess I don't understand why driving the ball into the ground is the optimal result of a swing with the toy. I am definitely not claiming to be a swing coach of any kind and only use the drill because I saw a couple higher level coaches (much higher than me) using them. Neither of the people in these videos sling the ball into the ground. I have heard others talk of, and we use, the slinging the bat into the net drill. The drill with the dog toy looks and feels similar. I hope I didn't come off as a know it all and appreciate all the comments.

Not here.

Just to clarify. I'm not saying 'driving the ball into the ground is optimal'. I am saying that is what would/should happen if the hitter was swinging as a HL hitter. That is using the proper swinging sequence. I'm saying using the 'dog toy' won't give a hitter the 'feed back' of the proper sequence.
I will look at the videos and comment.

I agree....all back all forward. All out front swings. A lot of bad info on this video. Hips tilting to much .....yucksss..
If it works for you and your DD...keep doing it. Not my style.

I can't disagree with you on any point really. I never watched any of these videos before jumping into this thread and really didn't analyze any of them. My thoughts are I use it more to have my daughter get the feeling of getting her arms out and creating whip. Whatever, to each their own and I have found there usually is more than one way to skin a cat and not every drill is for every hitter.

What I mean is I would like to see actual swings with a bat that mimic the swing needed to fling the ball into the net. My guess is you would see one of those real swings side-by-side with a high-level swing and realize why this drill is bad and promotes bad swing mechanics.

I will have to try that and see I guess and it would be interesting. I saw girls from U of Michigan doing the drill. If Carol Hutchins and Sierra Romero feel it is a good drill I am willing to give it a shot. Although, I am a travel softball coach and big hitter in my slow pitch league so they might want to ask me for new drills...lol

I tried to search for some Sierra Romero GIFs, but the only ones that I saw were broken. Anybody have a couple to show how her actual swing is different from the swing promoted by the toy?
