Can someone please explain how the EP or player works? I read the rules & just get lost. I had someone tell me the other day but we both were in a hurry so I'm no better off now than I was. Thanks

EP = extra player.

An EP is listed in the lineup just as any other batter. They may play any of the nine defensive positions after that first inning. Batting order stays the same. Defensive positions can change.

Starting lineup

Name, Pos.

Mary, 8
Suzy, 5
Sally, 6
Pam, 2
Betty, 1
Jan, 3
Sue, EP
Fran, 4
Kelly, 7
Peg, 9

Second inning
Mary, 8
Suzy, EP
Sally, 6
Pam, 2
Betty, 1
Jan, 3
Sue, 5
Fran, 4
Kelly, 7
Peg, 9

An EP can be subbed for an reentered just like any other player.

Usually NSA ruleset. USSSA uses AP (additional player). ASA does not have an EP in fastpitch, it use flex/dp.
