Does a change up really change ?

I've seen a few poorly thrown ones change speed and direction. LOL

I have seen a change up go over the backstop and hit the icecream truck in the parking lot. That changed my mind about standing line for a cone.

Some change ups even though born a change up are really a fastball or maybe a rise inside just waiting for the courage to come out.
